Soledad Suede Shoulder Bag (M)

$ 215.00

Only one left!  This item is one-of-a-kind like you.

Versatile shoulder bag beautifully handwoven with silk thread and soft suede panels.  A zip top closure, top handles, and a removable and adjustable long strap. This accent piece has an exterior front zip pocket and interior zip pocket.  Adjust the shoulder strap to carry it cross-body.

The silk-cotton textile is a recycled traditional Mayan blouse, or huipil, which takes 4-12 weeks to hand weave on back strap looms or foot looms, a Mayan tradition that has been passed on for centuries.

This particular design is from Chichicastenango.  Chichicastenango is a large indigenous town, lying on the crests of mountaintops.  The region is renowned for its incredibly intricate embroidery that uses vibrantly colored silk-cotton blends set against a black ground. This huipil has been overdyed over an extended period of time in order to give it the more earthy tones.

The diamonds represent the four cardinal points of East, West, North, and South and the zig-zags represent the mountains of Chicicastenango.
