Almolonga Handmade Travel Bag (XL)
Only one left! This item is one-of-a-kind like you.
The perfect weekender, made for incredible getaways or local stays. The colorful cotton textile is a recycled traditional Mayan blouse, or huipil, no longer in use. There is a suede trim and a zip top closure. Inside is lined and features a zip pocket. Top handles with a removable and adjustable long strap. Additional zip pocket on the front, exterior of the bag.
Each of the recycled textiles takes 4-12 weeks to hand weave on back strap looms or foot looms, a Mayan tradition that has been passed on for centuries. Nearly every aspect has symbolic meaning and each unique design tells the mythology and history of the region it is from.
This particular design is from Nahualá, which means enchanted waters. Huipils from this region are known for the brightly colored geometric patterns that often feature squares and diamonds, which represent the four principal directions of East, West, North, and South. The spirals included represent the levels of Mayan reincarnation and the colors are intentionally color bled on to the white base, a feature that is specific to Nahualá.
